Letter from the President
DATE: August 16, 2009 TO: ACF-SBCA Members FROM: Brian D. Knecht, CEC, CCA, ACE, AAC SUBJECT: September 2009 President’s Message

It’s hard to believe that two years have passed since our last “Election of Officers” for our chapter. We will be seeking nominations for all the elected offices; President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasure and Sgt. at Arms. At our monthly meeting, Monday, September 14, 2009; 3:30 pm. at Sarasota County Technical Institute, 4748 Beneva Road, Sarasota, Fl. 34233 Building 5, Room 502.
Our chapter received its charter in 1983. Only a few of us that are chapter members have been a part of this organization since its beginning. I joined the chapter in 1985 and have been an elected official since 1987 in one capacity or another. I can honestly say that I am a better person and chef since serving as an officer for the ACF Sarasota Bay Chefs Association. Yes, it’s like running a business, a not-for-profit organization that serves its members and represents our profession. As with any club, federation, etc… its success relies on their volunteers. Over my years of service, I can say that I have given uncountable hours to this organization. Yes, sacrifices have been made, but the choice was mine and never once regretted. As of late I currently serve on two national committees (nominations & elections and written exams re-write) and one state committee for education.
I encourage you to get involved. If every member of our chapter serves just one term (two years), we would never have to ask our membership to run for office. The few of us that have served this chapter since its conception, will always assist and support the new board. After serving as the President, three different times (4 years each time) over the past 20 years, I would like to step down to the Chairman of the Board and mentor the new President. Yes, I am eligible to run another term (by our By-Laws), but honestly, I do not have the time with my teaching schedule, new campus rebuild and other personal ventures. The ACF Sarasota Bay Chefs Association has served me well and I know it can for other members that want to volunteer their time for the betterment of this association and themselves.
Please give my message some thought and hopefully we will see you in September to be nominated or nominate someone for our current election. Feel free to contact me or any one of our officers to discuss the responsibilities of their office.
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your president the past two years and represent you, our members at the conferences, conventions and in our community.
Brian D. Knecht, CEC, CCA, ACE, AAC
